How To Get to Brno?

Brno is located between Vienna (Austria) and Prague. Vienna is closest (about 2 hours by bus and slightly less by train.)  Prague is about 2 hours 40 minutes from Brno.  Both Vienna and Prague have major international airports, whilst Brno has a small airport with regular flights to London-Stansted and a few other European destinations.  Another city with an airport within easy reach by bus or train is Bratislava (Slovakia).  Further information on getting to Brno from nearby airports is below.

FROM PRAGUE AIRPORT

  • BUSGepard Express operate direct minibuses from Prague airport and all stop at the Grand Hotel bus station in Brno.  These take just under 2hrs 30 minutes.
  • The Student Agency (RegioJet) buses leave directly from Prague’s Vaclav Havel airport (you will have to transfer at the main bus station Florenc in Prague, but one ticket is valid for the whole journey to Brno by both companies). Flixbus and other companies operate buses from the bus station Florenc. Regiojet and Flixbus will drop you off at the Grand Hotel bus station in Brno which is at the city center.

  • TRAIN: To get to Brno by train, you will first need to get to Prague’s main railway station – you can go by Airport Express, by public transport or ask for directions at the airport. You can buy your ticket online on the website of the České dráhy company, of the Regiojet Company, or at the train station. You will arrive at the central train station - Hlavní nádraží.

  • TRAIN: You can also travel from Vienna airport by train—there is a railway station within the arrivals hall.  This involves changing trains in Vienna, and depending on the train, possibly also Břeclav.  The total time is about 2 hours and the train arrives at the central Brno train station - Hlavní nádraží..  You can make a booking at IDOS.

FROM BRNO AIRPORT

HOW TO PAY FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT (BRNO)

  • In Brno there are lots of trams/buses that you can hop on and hop off.  The easiest way for a visitor to the city is probably just to pay using your contactless credit/debit card in the buses or trams.  If you tap on and off repeatedly, the maximum you will be charged for a day in 90CZK (approx 3.70eur).
  • If you will be travelling often, you could also consider a 5 day travel pass for 250 CZK (see the pricelist - only in Czech). This travel pass can be bought at the Main train station (Hlavní nádraží) as a paper ticket that you keep with you.
